Three dates at the Arts Council of Midland

The Arts Council of Midland’s 2026 Día de los Muertos program combines an exhibition, an opening reception and a later family festival at 806 S. Main Street, Midland, TX 79701. The exhibition, A Journey to Connect, features Texas painter and sculptor Melody Herrera from Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, November 15. The opening reception is Thursday, October 1, from 5:30–7 p.m. Central. The festival is Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Central.

Choose the visit that fits your plans: the reception begins the exhibition, while the October 17 festival adds outdoor activities and scheduled performances. An exhibition date range does not establish daily gallery opening hours. Check the Arts Council’s current calendar or contact the organization before arranging a gallery-only visit.

Opening reception and Melody Herrera’s work

The Arts Council’s reception listing confirms October 1, 5:30–7 p.m., at its South Main Street address and provides an RSVP option. Herrera’s work combines Mexican folk art and Neo-Expressionism, drawing on her cultural heritage. The organizer identifies her as a painter and sculptor; the exhibit gives visitors a chance to see that work together.

Herrera’s September 30 Instagram announcement also identifies the next day’s reception, time and address. The linked post is the artist’s announcement, rather than a separate ticket offer. Start with the Arts Council’s reception page for its RSVP and current event information.

October 17 festival: free admission and scheduled highlights

The organizer describes the October 17 festival as free, open to the public and family friendly. From 10 a.m.–2 p.m., it plans vendors selling art, handcrafted jewelry, apparel, packaged sweets and Day of the Dead decorations, along with food trucks, a car show and creative activities. Festival clothing is welcome. Food and vendor purchases are individual choices.

At 11 a.m., the Hispanic Cultural Center of Midland is scheduled to perform on the west lawn. At noon, the program lists a school mural and mask collaboration reveal. The organizer says the school installations include six murals and more than 150 masks, with the installations continuing through November 15. Use the current organizer schedule to plan around a particular performance.
